Our History

Free Life Temple Christian Center was founded and organized in 2005, by current Pastor, Elder Derick L. Jones with the support and prayers of Lady Clara Jones. It was after a 30 day prayer consecration that Elder Jones heard the voice of God as it related to the preparation of a ministry. This ministry was to be focused on calling people to a place in God where they could be free to be themselves, while becoming more like Jesus. Obeying the Spirit of the Lord, the church was organized based on love. Love is the foundation that this church was built on and continues to operate out of today.

The first service was held on June 5, 2005 at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Pontiac, MI. Mother Lela M. Kirkwood the mother of Pastor Jones became the first member. From a small gathering, under the leadership of Pastor Jones and Lady Clara a great church was being established.

As the ministry began to grow and develop the church sought out a new location. Two years later in June 2007, Free Life Temple Christian Center relocated to 67 South Glenwood (inside the Glenwood Plaza) and with the help of members began to fix and prepare a place where one experienced the power of God and the transformation of many lives.

With a desire to expand the ministry in May of 2008, the church was able to purchase, without any debt, a new church van. This enabled transportation to and from service for members and interested attendees within the Pontiac area. After much prayer and with great vision, Pastor Jones began to speak about another move for “Free Life” to continue to grow within its ministry. In October 2009, God opened a door and blessed the church to move into its present location, 507 North Perry in the city of Pontiac. This building had been recently remodeled physically and in the hearts of “Free Life”, prepared especially for it. Since that time the church has been referred to as “A Place to Belong!”

This is not the end of Free Life’s history, for with the help of the Lord it will continue!
